Niles Township, Community Unite Toward Common Goal

Niles Township leaders have been out and about, and our compassionate supporters have repeatedly stepped up, uniting with us in our aim to serve our most vulnerable neighbors.

  • Niles Township provided multiple tours of our new Respite Center to elected and community leaders interested in learning more about how the center serves those who are housing insecure in our community.
  • Niles Township Supervisor Bonnie Kahn Ognisanti served as co-chair for the Center of Concern’s annual Blarney Dash 5K! The Center of Concern works on behalf of residents facing challenges related to aging, homelessness and accessing resources to remain independent in their homes.
  • Niles Township Trustee Peggy Tolleson represents the Township as part of Skokie — Morton Grove District 69’s Community Schools Work Group and recently spoke about Township services to the Rotary Club Of Skokie Valley.
  • Niles Township became a member of the newly formed Skokie Health Equity Network alongside other community partners.
  • Mary Oshana (a Skokie Park Board commissioner) and the local Assyrian community collected myriad food and supplies for the Niles Township Food Pantry and the Township’s new Respite Center. They dropped off food and toured our Food Pantry.
  • Soul Good Coffee collected essential items for our housing insecure at the Niles Township Respite Center including sleeping bags, long john sets, socks, hats and much more.
  • MCC Academy 11th and 12th graders helped collect food for the Food Pantry and toured the pantry when dropping off donations.
  • The Cook County Farm Bureau donated $1,000 to the Niles Township Food Pantry Foundation, providing critical support in helping our vulnerable neighbors put food on their tables.
  • Niles Township Clerk Charles Levy hosted the Township Clerks Of Illinois February meeting at L. Woods Tap & Pine Lodge in Lincolnwood. Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough was guest speaker.
  • St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Skokie donated $500 to benefit Niles Township’s new Respite Center housed in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Skokie.
  • Erie Evanston/Skokie Health Center visited the Niles Township Food Pantry twice and disseminated information about its vitally important services. Elected leaders and non-profit representatives regularly visit the Food Pantry so our clients have access to information about available services.
  • Niles Township Food Pantry Manager Tony Araque and his hard-working team distributed more than 1,000 gift cards to families over the holiday season — even more than last year thanks to our generous donors.
  • Niles Township Trustee Kitty Kendrick accepted a 20-year membership award for the Township from the Morton Grove Chamber Of Commerce.
  • Niles Township Trustees Mark Collins and Don Gelfund and Supervisor Bonnie Kahn Ognisanti accepted a proclamation for our Food Pantry from the Skokie Village Board, and Trustee Collins and Clerk Charles Levy a similar proclamation from the Lincolnwood Village Board.
  • Westfield Old Orchard (and Old Orchard Assistant General Manager Mary Oshana) helped secure space for holiday gift wrapping to benefit our holiday gift card drive while Kendra Scott ran a sale benefitting the drive.
  • Worth Clark Realty organized a fundraiser for our holiday gift card drive at Sketchbook Brewers in Skokie.
  • Niles Township friends and neighbors Jen Ruffner and Wendy Katznelson organized the third annual Caring Community Countdown Campaign, collecting food and other items to benefit the Niles Township Food Pantry.
